Welcoming Peter Thurston, our new Growth and Development Officer.

We are delighted to have welcomed Peter Thurston to the Norfolk Scouts Team. Peter joins us as our Growth and Development Officer and will be supporting us with continuing to extend our reach over the coming years.

This work will focus on opening new provision in underrepresented communities and in areas where there has been an identified need, as well as strengthening existing Sections, Units and Groups.

Peter writes:

“Hi everyone, I’m Peter the new Growth and Development Officer for Norfolk Scouts. I’m really excited to be joining the Team.

Prior to this role, I worked in various roles for a national retail pharmacy company for 12 years. My most recent role was working within their field-based process efficiency & operations team, supporting and developing our local teams across the East of England.

I’ve been in Scouting since the age of 6 joining as a Beaver Scout, progressing through the sections, including volunteering with Beavers as an Explorer Scout Young Leader. I then began my adult volunteering as a leader with Beavers before taking on the role of Group Scout Leader (Lead Volunteer).

I’m really looking forward to working with our fantastic volunteer Teams in some of the identified areas across the county so that together we can reach more young people & adult volunteers and show them what fun and opportunities they can gain from Scouting.”

David Human, County Lead Volunteer, writes:

“We are delighted to welcome Peter to the County Leadership Team in his capacity of Growth and Development Officer. Peter’s post will enable us to take the initiatives we need to grow in our identified areas across Norfolk. Working with the underrepresented communities teams at both national and regional level, Peter will be able to combine his commercial and impressive scouting experience in what will be a very demanding role. The task is to open 22 new sections in the target areas over the next two years.
